Where Should You Book a Fine Dining Reservation?
Most restaurants use OpenTable, Resy, or their own website. Call the restaurant directly if you can't find an online option or want to discuss special requests with the maître d'.
Online platforms are convenient; direct calls give you personal contact with the restaurant. Consider calling if requesting specific tables, accommodations, or if planning a celebration.
How Far in Advance Should You Book?
Popular fine dining restaurants require 4-8 weeks advance booking. Less competitive spots need 1-2 weeks. Weeknights are easier; weekends book up quickly.
During holidays and special seasons (Valentine's Day, New Year's), book 8-12 weeks ahead. For spontaneous dining, check online platforms for same-day or next-day availability.
What Information Do You Need to Provide?
Provide your name, party size, preferred date/time. When prompted, mention dietary restrictions (vegetarian, allergies, etc.), celebrations (anniversary, birthday), or wine pairing preferences.
If you have special requests (window table, early seating, quiet location), note them in the comments section. The restaurant will accommodate when possible.
What About Cancellation Policies?
Most fine dining restaurants charge cancellation fees ($25-50 per person) if you cancel within 24-48 hours. Understand the policy when booking.
Respecting cancellation windows shows respect for the restaurant's business. If plans change, cancel promptly so they can offer the table to others.
